The population of the city I live in is a little over ½ million.

Our new mayor is graduated from the University of Notre Dame and has a

MBA from Harvard. He is 40 years old.

Shortly after he was elected as a new mayor, he was shopping

at a Target store with his children pushing his cart. All the store

staff and customers surrounded him clapping. People felt

a new era is coming.

He was interviewed by our local newspaper recently. He said that

not everything came easily for him.

According to him he struggled with dyslexia all his life.

His parents sent him to a small catholic elementary school so that

he had a small class size and special attention by teachers.

Now, he listens to four audio books a month. He said

he is a voracious listener.  At grad school at Harvard,

he earned an MBA with honors. That is so encouraging

for the students who have dyslexia.

Generally young children have stronger right brain

than left brain. In my case, my left eye is a lazy eye

all my life, and the right eye is normal.

I did not like math when subtraction was introduced.

My left brain did not like to process subtraction.

On the other hand, I was writing a play for neighborhood

children when I was at elementary school.

It means I was controlled by my right brain,

or I simply like right brain stuff.

In these days, I would have been diagnosed

as dyslexia. They like to label everything.

Anyway, I heard dyslexia is out grown most in most cases.

So, parents and teachers encourage them to write correctly

but not to discourage them by criticizing them all the time.

When I was working at elementary school, many young students

mixed up “b” and “d”.  But, around third grade, most of the students

corrected by themselves.

I feel good about our new mayor since he overcame a relatively

severe case of dyslexia.

No title
