To Japan fighting with typhoon

Cancelled our flight

When we visited Japan at the end of July,
the big typhoon came to the Tokyo area.

Our airplane was canceled after 7 hours of
delay at San Francisco Airport. One of the reasons for this conclusion was
that the Narita International Airport has a curfew.

This typhoon itself was not that bad, but because of
the strong wind, many aircraft were
lined up and our aircraft could not get a runway clearance
to land in time before midnight.

Why is there a curfew at an international airport?
One of the reasons is not to disturb
people in sleep in the neighborhood of Narita.

Also, we were told by the airline company that there were no open seats
available to go to Tokyo, even first and business classes for another four days.
Everyone wanted to go to Tokyo even when it was over 40 degrees?

My husband asked how about flying to Osaka tomorrow instead of Tokyo.
They said Osaka was available and we went to Osaka and took
a bullet train to Tokyo. That worked for us.

The night in San Francisco

Since we had to stay in San Francisco we made
an arrangement to go to a hotel near the airport.
But, when we got to the hotel
they told us our room was sold to someone else.

What we found out was that there was a conference
by Silicon Valley hot shots. They bought all the
rooms for the conference beyond regular rates.

Anyway, we found another hotel after spending almost all day
at the airport.

By the way, when we have problems caused by the weather,
airline companies are not responsible. We had to pay the hotel bill.

From the Kansai International airport to Tokyo, we rode a bullet train.
I have never used the Kansai International airport. My husband
told me that the airport was built by land reclamation.

I was wondering whether it’s sinking or not.
He said that it has happened and they had to
bring some dirt to prevent from sinking more.

Anyway, compared to the Narita Airport, not many limousine busses
were available in the Kansai International airport. We had to ride
an almost 1 hour to the Shin Osaka station and got a bullet train.

From Tokyo station to our hotel by taxi, it was almost midnight.
But, our hotel gave us the largest room and employees who
knew us over the years, said, “Welcome back!”

Our hotel’s welcome gesture was great! Finally, we relaxed!

What a trip!

But, in hot Tokyo, we enjoyed our trip tremendously.
