Health Issues in 70s

About two to three years ago, my doctor said to me
that my body is about 13 years younger than my actual
age. Really?

I was born with dislocation of a hip joint. So, I had a cast
on my left hip when I was a little over two years
old. Then, much later, I had a total hip surgery when I was in
my 50s. That was about 20 years ago.

After I retired from my work as a school librarian in my 60s,
I worked out diligently almost everyday at the gym for about one hour.
But, recently, because of Coronavirus, my gym has been closed.
I have switched my workout from gym exercises to a
walk in my neighborhood. My neighborhood has gentle
hills. I noticed that from time to time, I have had numbness
on my feet when I walk. I am on the borderline of diabetes.
I checked with a neurologist. She said, “Work with
your primary doctor and control your diabetes.”

So far, I have been controlling my diabetes and my sugar level is
manageable.

When we get older, it’s natural our body will decline gradually.
Now, Coronavirus. This virus was transferred from animal
to human. Coronavirus is spreading rapidly in the U.S.A and the world.
People like me with underlying health conditions are most at risk.

Underlying health conditions are:
Diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure, cancer, lung disease
and heat disease.

I am following the guidance from state and federal governments.
• rest
• keep social distance
• exercise
• wash hands frequently
• clean door knobs with Clorox
• do not touch your face (this is hard)
• grocery shopping once a week
So far, I’m ok. I check my sugar level and eat healthy foods.

Problems in Sampling Method

I heard that Coronavirus’s fatality rate is 2%-4%
according to the World Health Organization.
But, The Wall Street Journal on 3/24/20 by Eran Bendavid and
Jay Bhattacharya reported that if 100 million
Americans get the disease, two million to four million could die.
This article said that the true fatality rate is the portion of
those infected who die, not the death from identified positive
cases.

This article is suggesting that a universal quarantine may not
be worth the costs on the economy, mental and physical
health. President Trump wants to normalize the US society
after Easter. Quarantine and staying at home or start
business back up soon? I don’t know who is right.

Bill Gates
